The Scents I Remember Collection

You might think the Scents I Remember Collection is just  for anyone with family, friends, photos of persons who smoked (especially a pipe or cigar).  But that’s just not so.  I never had anyone in my family smoke these but I love this paper line! Why?  Because it’s one of the few line out there that’s masculine!  This line is wonderful GUY paper.

Here are a couple of layouts featuring my son to illustrate the point.

This layout uses Paper Indian and Smokin patterned papers and Garden Mandala and Garden Icons acrylic stamp sets.

Left over papers

Most of the time I am throwing away my left over papers, don’t you? I am not much of a card maker so I know I won’t be using my left overs.

Now I challenged myself to use them all up for a layout. I ripped stripes of different left over papers and placed them on a piece of white cardstock. I loved the result, don’t you? So don’t throw away your tiny leftovers, use them!

A New Year’s table decoration

DSC_0012

With it being this close to Christmas, I am thinking most of you are finalizing presents and dinner plans but that you don’t have time to make any more decorations – but wait – another celebration comes in the following week, and I thought I would show you how to make a simple but festive table decoration from Harlee-Quinnz Designs Butterfly Gardens Garden Path paper and a few other supplies  Besides the HQD paper, you will need a champagne flute (easy to find at a thrift shop), a sprig of bluish-white flowers from a craft store, some silvery glitzy leaves, some white leaves (I used Prima), some silver Thickers shapes, some styrofoam or packing beads or florist foam, some ribbon, glue dots, and 2 large-headed pins or other center for your flowers (you could also use florists wire).  Assemble your supplies and cut a piece of paper to fit into the flute – notch out each end so the piece will round itself into the glass, insert into the flute, and fill the flute with styrofoam.

Then cut several strips of the paper and roll them around a pencil so they curl. Cut 2 circles from the paper and then cut around and around in a swirl to create a flower. Pull the swirl in tight and use glue dots to permanently shape the flower. Add a pin or other center.

Now it’s time to make the arrangement. Insert the flowers into the foam, add the HQD flowers, the leaves, and the silver shapes. Turn the arrangement as you are filling the flute making sure that all sides are full. Finally add the paper curls up and around so they hang over the edges.

add ribbon bows to the base and your flirty, icy table decoration is finished. Hope you enjoyed this little idea and have a wonderful holiday!

Here is my ‘Bug’

Working with these Harlee Quinnz papers has been so much fun.  I am a huge fan of the entire Butterfly Garden line.  This is a layout of my daughter Rylee and “Bug” is her nickname that has stuck since she was little.  I used several of the stamps from the line and added some embellishments that helped this layout really come to life.  I used glitter paints and glitter mists for that something extra.  I even used poinsettias on this very summery layout.  I couldn’t resist, because the colors were absolutely perfect for this layout.  The glitter butterfly is my own creation that I did with specialty paper, glitters, beads and wire.  Thank you for stopping by the Harlee Quinnz blog!

Dazzling Fairy Ornament!

IMG_0619

IMG_0615
Every year I try and make a couple of new ornaments for the tree and when thinking of a design I was instantly drawn to the Harlee-Quinnz fairy stamps. So, I decided to make a floating glass fairy ornament. Here’s what supplies you will need to make one of these ornaments:
clear ornament
sheet of clear acrylic
Harlee-Quinnz fairy stamp
stazon ink
fine glitter
glitter glue
glue dots
circle cutter
ribbon

Step 1.
Stamp the fairy image of your choice onto the clear acrylic using staz on ink
Step 2.
Outline and fill in the stamped image with the glitter glue and then completely cover with glitter. Let dry for a few minutes then shake off the excess glitter.
Step 3.
Cut a circle just slightly smaller then the dimension of the clear ornament. Next insert the image into the ornament. I used the ornaments that come apart and used four tiny glue dots to secure the image to the sides of the clear ball.
Step 4.
I then added a small amount of glitter to the bottom of the ornament for added dazzle.
Step 5.
Now put the ornament back together and tie a ribbon through the top, and you are all done!

wrap it up!

i wanted a share a quick and easy to make little gift bag that you can whip up to tuck a special gift in…

gift bag

i started with a piece of the COWGIRLS ephemera; the wanted poster was just asking to be filled in, and the cowgirl looked so “christmas-ey” in her green shirt and red boots! i stamped “gifts” under “wanted” on the poster using dark brown chalk ink.

then i took a piece of the LUCKY STRIPE printed paper and used Smooch accent ink in Siren to color the darker stripes red creating a “peppermint” effect. i adhered the ephemera piece over the paper at a angle and cut out leaving about 1″ around all sides. then i tore around the edges, inked them with dark brown chalk ink and adhered it to a piece of kraft cardstock; which was also inked around the edges.

i added some vintage sequin trim around the ephemera piece, and some ribbon and pom trim along the bottom. then i added 3 velvet flowers with black button centers and the word “shop” in some glittery silver letters. the piece was then ready to be adhered to the gift bag.

i removed the cord handles from the bag and inserted 3 pieces of twine through the holes, bringing them to the front to tie in a bow. a piece of vintage tinsel to hold a tiny bell at the center of the bow added the finishing touch.

Magical Christmas Ornaments

Christmas Ornament

As a child, I used to make Christmas ornaments with my Mom every year. We would make one each, my sister and I, and my Mom would make one. We would sign and date them and “add” them to our growing collection of homemade holidays on our tree. My Mother has been absent from my Christmases for a few years now, but that tradition lives on.

Here’s an example for you and your children to try. Maybe you will start a holiday tradition too.

Harlee Quinnz Designs wonderful stamps

I love the stamps designed by Harlee-Quinnz Designs. They are so well designed. Most of the time I just stamp an image on a piece of scrapbook paper. This time I wanted to do something different. I used an acrylic deco sheet by Clear Scraps. I stamped the images with Stazon ink on the sheet. Used some stickles to color the stamped images a bit. When I created the layout at first I hadn’t placed the patterned paper on the back of the sheet and I saw something was missing. So I added the piece of beautiful colored patterned paper on the back of the acrylic sheet, it gives such a wonderful touch.

You should try to stamp on acrylic too. You can also cut out the stamped images and add them as embellishments on your layout. Just try it!

Have fun stamping!!

Just in time for Thanksgiving

If you are anything like me, you are always pressed for time but you still want to make some handmade decorations for the holidays. Thanksgiving is next week but there is still time to whip up a small wallhanging/wreath with some Harlee-Quinnz Design papers and a few other items.

wallhanging

The base for this wallhanging is a round cheese container or an empty ribbon spool prox 4″ in diameter. Cut a 7″ diameter circle of The Rose Garden Harlee-Quinnz Designs and adhere to the bottom of the container or spool.  If you are using a ribbon spool, you will need to cut a piece of patterned paper to cover the front, or another idea would be to use one of the Harlee-Quinnz stamps (I am thinking of the Butterfly Garden Mandalas) on some patterned paper or card stock as your frontspiece.

Then, using a leaf shape as a pattern (I used a 3″ leaf from a sprig that I bought at Michaels on sale) trace around the leaf shape onto Rainbow Garden, Garden Shadows, and the Rose Garden papers.  I played with the placing of the pattern to take advantage of the wonderful shadings and patterns on the papers. Cut out the leaves and place them on a waste paper.  Then, using glimmer mist or a product like that, spray the leaves – I used coffee shop and Black cherry – the paper will curl up but then flatter as it dries. Staple the leaves around the circle making sure to overlap the leaves and staples – I used 14 leaves.

Staple a fiber or ribbon to the top of the background paper as a hanger if desired

Back view of the wallhanging showing the staples and hanger.

Then, to finish, add a fiber bow and strands (Harlee-Quinnz Designs fibers would be perfect for this) or ribbons and any other embellishments you want. I glued on a small resin wine bottle cork top that the cork had broken off (I thought the little cheese, grapes, and bread worked perfectly with the cheese container images) and a couple of 7gypsies stickers. You could add some silk leaves or small artificial fruits or even some pine cones or nuts.

I hope you have enjoyed this little project tutorial and that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
